P2: Create a proposal and client documentation to support the pitch
In this section, I will be creating sample documents to support and use in my magazine pitch.
Magazine Covers
The first sample documents I produced were the mock-covers of my magazine, which were informed by my market research, mind maps and feedback from other classmates.
Magazine Covers
The first sample documents I produced were the mock-covers of my magazine, which were informed by my market research, mind maps and feedback from other classmates.
For this cover, I experimented with a black and white colour scheme. this is simple and in fact makes the image quite eye catching, as it becomes the key focus without too much colour to detract from the colour or message of the magazine. It also gives the magazine a more 'Sophisticated' and high-end feel, working in accompaniment with the central image and minimal text to create a simple and uncluttered, eye catching front cover which would stand out on a magazine stall amongst the cluttered, more visually unappealing publications.
This is the second cover that I mocked up. I wanted to keep the theming and concepts behind the design consistent across both covers to create a sense of coherence and a sense that these could both be issues of the same publication. To achieve this, I used the same typography and fonts, using the "Futura" font in bold for the magazine title, and using the Helvetica family of fonts for the body text and subtitles.
I also utilised the same positioning and model motif of having the title and tagline be in the top right corner, with the model looking up and to the right, seemingly looking at the title, as well as representing the idea of having a "Vision" and looking to the future, which relates to the magazine title and it's themes of future technology.
The clean and uncluttered layout remains the same, utilising small amounts of body text to tease articles, but only having one main image as the hook.
For the colour scheme, I wanted to experiment a bit with colour, as having a more colourful magazine could also be a potential route to make the magazine eye catching and draw in the younger end of the target audience with more vibrancy. I wanted to utilise this vibrancy whilst also keeping the simplistic and clean look of the first cover. To achieve this, I decided to maintain the black and white scheme within the text and imagery, but use a hot pink solid colour background. This maintains a simple and clean look, and even makes the main model image of the magazine stand out even more as the black and white contrasts the bright background.

Page spreads
Continuing from this, I created some double page spread ideas to encapsulate the content and different kinds of spread designs that I would like to include in my publication. This will greatly assist my pitch, as it allows me to demonstrate my ideas in a very clear and visual way, so that the client can see what my magazine will look like and what potential it has visually instead of me trying to convey everything verbally.
Here I used the full double page spread to create one article, utilising the left side for the large model image of the key figure without anything going on in the background (Keeping consistency from the covers.) I then use the right hand page to add the text for the article, as well as a related image and the tagline for the article as a quote. Having this clear separation of the pages gives the magazine a clean and uncluttered look, thus making it more visually appealing.
The colour scheme I used is simple, utilising a similar black and white scheme as the first cover, but this time with the model in colour. a splash of red is also thrown in within the use of the "Tesla" logo. This same red is used to highlight a key point in the quote, to push the message and make it more eye-catching.
I used gridlines to help me with producing this, before removing them to see what the page would like like within the magazine.

Here I have again utilised the full double paged spread for one article. I used the same gridlines so that my magazine would have coherence and maintain that organised style.
This time however, I allowed for more overlap of the pages, with the main model photo taking up most of a page, but also creeping in to the other page and having the body text wrap around him. This in my opinion works very effectively and makes the magazine feel more personal and interesting, as well as connecting the model more with the text. This creates a more cohesive feel and brings the two pages together into more of a single large image instead of separated pages. This reflects well the content and personality of the article, as it is an entirely personality focused article and displays the huge personality that is Drake by having him literally too big for one page.
For the colour scheme on this one I wanted to invert the black and white of the previous spread by having the background be black and the body text be white. This creates a good sense of contrast and keeps the magazine visually interesting, whilst also sticking to a similar colour scheme. For this colour scheme I injected more colour, and made the hot pink colour that was part of the model image a key part of the imagery and style.. This gives the magazine a more vibrant feel, whilst also utilising colours from the front cover design that this article is attached to.
For this spread I also included social media links to really bring in the "Youthful" and "Digital Native" aspects of the brief.

Within this spread, I wanted to display a different style of spread that will also appear in my magazine. Having different styles will help keep the magazine visually interesting, as well as display to the client that the magazine is adaptable into different styles.
For this one I went for a more separated style, with one page being an image, and the other being article with lots of smaller images and most importantly, a different background. In this example, the image and article are paired together to create a cohesive, logical feel. However, this same style could be used for advertisement, with an advertisement image being displayed on the left and a completely unrelated article being displayed on the right page. However, I think this could even work as it is, as it brings the advertisement in as part of the magazine content.
I also used a "Page turner" arrow at the bottom right of the page to tease the content of the next page, and draw readers in to keep reading, as a piece of key important content is coming up.

Proposal
Here, I have created a proposal document using all of my key ideas for the magazine, as well as including images such as my covers for reference. This will also be used in assisting and accompanying my pitch for the magazine:

P3: Create a pitch to communicate an idea to the client
To prepare for pitching the idea to the client, I grouped up with other students in order to research and compile a list of key skills and elements needed for a good quality presentation. We then practised our skills in this area by conveying the research that we had carried out to others in the class via a presentation:
Key elements conveyed:
Visual aids

M2: Identify potential client questions and amend pitch and proposal documentation
Here are some potential questions that I could potentially receive from the client:
- What is the planned release schedule?
- How will you integrate social media use?
- Why is the product unique from competition?

Amendments to pitch:
Here I have amended my pitch to answer these potential client questions. Here I have added information about the planned release schedule, which is intended to be bi-monthly (once every two months.) This is because it allows for the magazine to be of high quality whilst still keeping up with news in technology.
I have also included information about social media integration. I plan to talk more about this in my actual presentation, and to talk about how technology as a subject links in well with social media, and how I plan on getting questions from social media followers for interviews, sharing exclusive content to out social media page, etc. In terms of the general magazine, I will include social media links throughout, as is evident through my double page spreads. This will help to increase social media engagement. This engagement can be used to help in generating content such as QnA with audience interaction, agony aunt sections, etc.
I have also included the USP of this magazine, which is that it is a high end technology magazine and will elaborate on this by highlighting competition which is less sleek and more cluttered. This USP means that the magazine will stand out from the competition, and will have an entirely unique look and feel amongst other technology publications on the market.
